PWC apologises for Oscars’ blunder

Actors during the red carpet event at the Oscars

PricewaterhouseCoopers, (PWC), Oscars accountants has apologised for last Sunday’s blunder at the Academy Awards show at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, US.

At the awards, which is the 89th, presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced La La Land as the winner of Best Picture when, in reality, Moonlight had earned the top prize.

The announcement, led to a mild drama among the audience when the error was corrected and the actual winner announced.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, which has overseen the Academy’s ballot-counting process for the past 83 years, said in statement: “We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture.”

“The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected.

“We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation,” the statement concluded.
