Consumers have voted Checkers Custard the Most Preferred Custard Brand of the Year in the Consumers Value Awards (CVA) 2026, even as Milo, FirstBank and Flour Mills of Nigeria also got consumers nod.
The Checkers award makes it the 5th in a row since the inception of the platform which places the power of recognition on consumers and citizens to recognise organisations and brands they believe deliver value.
The leading pudding brand, Checkers Custard, was adjudged winner after polling 96.6%, in the ceremony held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
Reacting to the win, Peggy Akudo Abengowa, Marketing Manager, Checkers Custard, said, the recognition was a testament to the huge value “consumers get from our product, namely it’s nutritious component, value for money and uncompromising quality of the product”.
She emphasised that as a brand, Checkers Custard do not compromise on quality which is it’s biggest offering, even as she observed that it does not have plans to renege on that.
“We love our consumers and they love us and this relationship is not ending anytime soon. Our promise to our consumers is that they will continue to get the best product quality from us and also good value for their money,” Abengowa stated.
The Consumers Value Awards recognises organisations that have delivered value to consumers. The affirmation of which organisation has delivered value is placed in the hands of consumers through a voting process to determine which of the brands offer best value for money.
This year’s edition, the 5th, was with the theme: “Beyond Satisfaction: Redefining Consumer Value in a New Economy.”
Converner of the Consumers Value Awards, Akonte Ekine said the CVA is deliberately designed not simply as an awards ceremony, but as an evolving consumer engagement platform that encourages brands, institutions and government to listen to the people they serve.
Speaking during his opening remark, Ekine pointed that, the platform since it’s inception continues to place emphasis on Consumer Voice, Consumer Choice and Consumer Value.
“We believe that consumers and citizens are the paymasters. And paymasters deserve a better experience,” Ekine said.
Underscoring Ekine’s position, Lagos State Governor, Olushola Babajide Sanwo-Olu represented by Fola Solebo, General Manager, Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), said customer satisfaction alone is no longer sufficient, stressing the importance of trust, empathy, accessibility and sustainability in defining value.
He described the awards as a “receipt of the trust the people have placed in the brands”.
The high powered event which pulled brand minders, media practitioners, regulatory authorities and consumers also saw the emergence of other brands voted best money brands.
They include: Milo award for Outstanding Value for Money Brand in the beverage category with 78.4%; FirstBank, Excellence in Customer Service (Banking Sector) with 35% while Golden Penny Spaghetti and Golden Penny Semovita, both from Flour Mills of Nigeria were awarded Most Accessible Spaghetti Brand and Most Trusted Swallow Brand of the Year 2026 with 92.9% and 60.6% respectively.
