Modric, Matar wins FIFA’s best
Croatia’s Luka Modric who plays for Real Madrid was on Monday night crowned the 2018 FIFA Best Player of the Year. He beat Liverpool’s talisman Mohammad Salah and Ronaldo to clinch the award.
Orlando Pride forward Marta won the award for the best female player for the sixth time while France’s Didier Deschamps won the award for the best men’s coach.
Modric’s triumph is a departure from dominance by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The Real Madrid midfielder won the award for guiding Croatia to the World Cup final and winning a third consecutive Champions League trophy with Real Madrid.
Modric won his fourth Champions League title with Real Madrid in May, before leading his country to a World Cup final in July and being crowned UEFA Men’s Player of the Year last month.
