Man gets two years prison sentence for tampering with EEDC property
A man identified as Christopher Achi, has received a two-year prison sentence for tampering with the properties of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
Justice Choebe Ayua at the Federal High Court 1 Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, says while passing the verdict, that Achi, 28, committed an offence punishable under Section 1(10) Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 LFN 2004.
Achi was said to have tampered and removed electric cables, property of Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC) at Ihenu Uburu Community.
Head of Communications at EEDC, Emeka Ezeh, who made this known to journalists on Sunday, lamented the series of destruction on EEDC’s properties by vandals.
Ezeh acknowledged that vandalism is a major challenge that is hampering EEDC’s operations, as these vandals usually drain transformer oil, remove feeder pillar unit, intermediate or up-riser cables, transformer winding coil or sometimes even remove the whole transformer.
He however noted that, management of EEDC is not relenting in her commitment to ensuring that apprehended vandals are tried in accordance with the law and made to face the consequences of their actions.
“We believe that this will serve as deterrent to many others out there who are engaging in such act.”
