Access Bank boosts ITAM skill acquisition program for underpriviledged communities
Some selected communities in Lagos have been shortlisted as the first set of beneficiaries in the Access Bank sponsored maiden ITAM skill acquisition program.
The communities among which are Makoko, Ilaje-Otumara and Bajulaiye area of Bariga are expected to benefit from the two weeks program scheduled to start with Ilaje Otumara community on Thursday, June 5, 2024.
The Institute of Trade Association Management, organiser of the program said in a statement that participants will be equipped with knowledge in Soap making – liquid soaps (dish wash), bar soaps, bleach – (stain remover) and Insecticide- Insects Killer and others.
Dr. Nelson Obine, Founder, Institute of Trade Association Management, noted the objectives of the program among others is to impact participants with the appropriate attitude and skills that can make them become self-employed and as well transforming them into wealth creators.
He also pointed that in the present rising case of unemployment, the program will provide participant opportunities to create employment for themselves.
“Thanks to Access bank Nigeria, their support would make significant contribution towards wealth creation, reducing hunger and providing decent employment towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the country,” Dr. Obine said.
“Studies have shown that skill acquisition is the most critical factor in the utilization of entrepreneurship opportunity for self-employment. Nigeria like other part of the world is faced with the challenges of unemployment. And, empowering Nigerians to work for themselves is one of the major solutions to bringing down the ongoing trend of unemployment. That is why ITAM thought it wise to engage in this capacity building and skill acquisition program,” he said.
