ITAM to launch NiTA week, targets enterprise development, economic growth
The Institute of Trade Association Management (ITAM) has announced the hosting of the Nigeria Trade Association Week (NiTA Week) 2026.
The event, a landmark national initiative is designed to strengthen membership institutions, foster collaboration, promote enterprise development and advance the professionalization of Nigeria’s association ecosystem.
According to a statement from the organisation, the opening event will hold virtually on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 and it will bring together leaders and representatives of Trade Associations, Professional Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Manufacturers Associations, Cooperatives, Business Membership Organizations, Informal Sector Associations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Development Partners, Government Agencies, Corporate Organizations, Academic Institutions, Association Executives and Secretariats from across Nigeria and beyond.
The virtual summit marks the beginning of a broader industry-wide movement aimed at positioning Nigeria’s association community as a strategic contributor to economic growth, enterprise competitiveness, institutional development and national prosperity.
The keynote presentation titled: “Building Nigeria’s Association Economy: A Shared Vision for Stronger Membership Institutions, Enterprise Growth, National Competitiveness and Sustainable Development” will be delivered by Dr. Nelson Obine, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Trade Association Management (ITAM).
According to Dr. Obine, Nigeria possesses one of the largest and most diverse association ecosystems in Africa, representing millions of entrepreneurs, professionals, manufacturers, traders, artisans, cooperatives and business owners whose collective impact on the economy remains largely under-recognized.
“Strong associations create stronger enterprises. Stronger enterprises create stronger industries. Stronger industries create a stronger economy. Nigeria’s membership institutions must begin to see themselves not only as representative bodies but also as strategic development institutions capable of driving enterprise growth, innovation, policy engagement and sustainable national development,” he stated.
The organisers further stated that, the activities of NiTA Week will continue through Saturday, July 25, 2026, with participating organizations encouraged to undertake independent engagement, visibility and collaboration initiatives under the spirit of the programme.
“As part of the programme, participants will be introduced to proposed 2026–2030 Nigeria Trade Association Industry Development Roadmap aimed at promoting collaboration, institutional excellence and professional association management,” the statement reads in part.
ITAM in the statement noted the event is open to Trade Associations, Professional Associations, Chambers of Commerce, Business Membership Organizations, Academic and Research Institutions, Association Executives and Secretariats, Industry Leaders and Stakeholders even as it called on all to participate actively in the Nigeria Trade Association Week (NiTA Week) 2026.
