Senate swears in new member

Senator Alfa Isaac.

Barely three months to the end of the 8th Assembly, the Senate on Wednesday sworn in Isaac Alfa as the representative of Kogi East senatorial district.

Alfa replaced Atai Aidoko, who had been embroiled in series of legal battles.

Both contenders laid claim to the seat as the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which won the election.

Alfa was initially sworn in on June 2015 but was sacked in 2016 and Aidoko was put in his place which became a subject of litigation.

In January 2019, the apex court struck out the appeal of Aidoko who had challenged the court’s decision.

The appeal court had upheld the initial judgment, declaring Alfa as the rightful candidate.
