Nestle Nigeria celebrates journalists in 2023 media awards

Over twenty journalists were celebrated and rewarded for their excellence in reporting in the 3rd edition of the Nestle Nigeria Media Award.

The event held last Friday, Dec 8, 2023 at Marriot Hotel, Ikeja, GRA, witnessed a remarkable turnout among the media and other key players in the FMCG space.

Sponsored by Nestlé Nigeria, a leading FMCG company and positive lifestyle advocate aimed at celebrating the outstanding accomplishments by journalists and media professionals in Nigeria.

With a total of 118 entries received in this year’s edition, which is the 3rd in the series, more than 20 entries were adjudged winning entries by the panel of judges.

Among the winners were Edet Udoh, the Managing Editor of The Revealer, whose entries were adjudged first place positions in Community and Agriculture categories among others.

Rahmatullah Mahmud emerged victorious in the Nutritious & Affordable Foods Solutions category,  while Adekunle Ajayi, smiled home with the Photo-Journalist Award.

Other winners were Amechi Obiakpu, who bagged two awards; first place in Environmental Sustainability and 3rd place in Youth Development and Empowerment categories, Ntia Usukuma and Chioma Umeha.

In her opening remarks, Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Manager,  Nestle Nigeria, said the company is extremely proud to recognize journalistic hard work, resilience, dedication, innovation and audacity in living up to their roles as the watchdog and agenda setter of the society amidst hostility and poor working conditions.

She also acknowledged Nestlé’s contributions in providing a platform for highlighting the expertise and dedication of journalists focused on specific areas.

“The Nestle Nigerian PLC Awards was put together to celebrate excellence in journalism, to acknowledge the outstanding work and contributions of media professionals to the development of our great country, Nigeria.

“This award continues to honour those who have demonstrated outstanding skills in reporting, investigating journalism, feature writing, and other categories.

“We are excited that we are now in the third edition, and we are going to be navigating better every year. The awards are part of Nestlé’s efforts to help build skills, improve our reporting standards, and ensure that we can get our news on global platforms to compete internationally,” she said.
