MediaConsortium, Espinews publisher, Amechi Obiakpu, wins Nestle Media Award
The Co-Publisher, MediaConsortium and publisher Espinews, Amechi Obiakpu has emerged winner in two categories at the 2023 edition of the Nestle Media Award.
Amechi’ entries were adjudged winning entries in two different categories at the Nestle Nigeria sponsored award held last Friday, December 8, 2023, at The Marriot Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
His entries entitled: “Empowering a sustainable culture” (https://www.espinews.com.ng/empowering-a-sustainable-culture/) won him the ‘Best Story On Environmental Sustainability,” first position while, “Discouraging ‘Japa’ syndrome through meaningful engagement,” (https://www.espinews.com.ng/discouraging-japa-syndrome-through-meaningful-engagement/) won him the ‘Best Story On Youth Empowerment and Development’, 3rd position.
Organisers of the award which is the 3rd edition in the series said the award was put together to to celebrate excellence in journalism to acknowledge the outstanding work and contribution of media professionals to the development of our great country, Nigeria.
They said this year’s edition was a step from last year as it recorded 118 entries with great stories.
According to Victoria Uwadoka, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainability Lead, Nestle Nigeria, the award provide the platform and dedication of journalists to focus on eight pillars, among which are; Environmental Sustainability, Youth Empowerment and Development, Affordable food nutrition, Access to water, Finance and improving household income, across various platforms- print, electronic and online.
Expressing her excitement about this year’s edition, she pointed that, it gets better every year, even as she noted that, apart from the award plaque and other gifts, winners will go home with the bragging rights for the rest of the year.
Amechi Obiakpu holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Lagos State University, Ojo and has over a decade experience in journalism covering the Integrated Marketing Communications Industry and other beats.
He also holds a certificate in “Risk Issues And Crisis Management” from the London School of Public Relations and a certificate in “Advancing Nutrition, Health and Environmental Awareness Through The Media,” from the prestigious Lagos Business School (LBS).
