The Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on Friday unveiled a 100-pledge manifesto, promising expanded healthcare access, improved education and people centred initiatives for residents in the state if elected into office in 2027.
Dr. Hamzat who is the current deputy governor of the state also said his administration will continue with the visionary leadership of his predecessors.
Speaking during his manifesto and campaign theme launch, held at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Iganmu, Lagos, tagged PROMISE, the APC flag bearer said it was on the basis he hoped to govern the state if given the chance.
According to him, PROMISE has seven letters, seven pillars, and 100 pledges. R stands for renewal. O stands for opportunity. M stands for machinery of government. I for inclusion. S for security and resilience. And E for everyday people.
Speaking on his promise, Dr. Hamzat listed healthcare as one of his administration’s major focus.
He pointed out that one out of every ten residents of the state has the Ilera Eko card but plans to reduce the number to one out of every three.
In an expanded focus for his healthcare plan, Dr. Hamzat promised an upgrade of 100 primary healthcare centres across Lagos, alongside the establishment of two additional general hospitals and 15 maternal and child healthcare centres to improve access to essential medical services.
He also promised to strengthen healthcare delivery, particularly for women, children and vulnerable communities, as part of efforts to improve public health outcomes.
Beyond healthcare, Dr. Hamzat, whose campaign theme is: “Lagos… Forward Together,” also addressed education, transportation, housing, employment, security, environmental sustainability, economic development and social protection as part of the manifesto.
On housing, the manifesto proposes affordable mortgage arrangements requiring a 10 per cent initial deposit and single-digit interest rates, aimed at making homeownership more accessible to residents.
A central feature of the manifesto is its accountability framework, which seeks to make government commitments measurable and open to public scrutiny adding that governance was about earning the trust of the people.
He ascribed the state architecture to the leadership of President Bola Tinubu’s plan in1999, vowing to continue on that visionary legacy.
“Lagos did not become great by accident. The modern architecture of the state was built by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, when he was the governor of the state.
Going down memory lane, Dr. Hamzat said: “From the BRT, the creation of the local council development areas that are extending development to the grassroots. These are institutions that our government has built over the years. I am grateful for its confidence. The promise built on that foundation, the current administration’s team sports agenda, and the federal government’s renew hope agenda.
“Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), showed us that visible delivery and trust of people. Governor Ambode carried the major infrastructure forward. Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo Olu has led to a demanding period with calmness, and I have sat beside him every day.
“I do not take it as an inheritance. I take it as a standard that I must uphold and defeat,” he said.
The unveiling pulled political heavyweights from the state among other top government functionaries.
In her address, former Lagos State deputy governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Susan, on behalf of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) said Lagos is not for experimentation but one that must be built on good and improved governance.
“Lagos is growing everyday. More people are coming into the state, businesses are also growing and our people expect more from the government. We must plan well and prepare for the future and this is why the experience of Dr. Kadiri Hamzat is important,” she said.
