
Kenya’s Edwin Kibet wins Lagos City Marathon 2025
Ethiopia’s Guta Hirpa wins the female category
Kenya’s Edwin Kibet on Saturday emerged winner in the men’s category of the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
He clocked a time of 2:14:06 to take home the $50,000 prize money.
In the female category, another East African, Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa emerged victorious, clocking a time of 2:37:04 to claim her first win in the competition.
The 2025 edition of the event, a 42km race, commenced at Western Avenue, in front of the National Stadium Surulere, and finished in front of Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island on Saturday.
Kibet’s victory marks his second win in the competition, having previously emerged victorious in the 2023 edition.
In 2024, he came third behind his compatriot Bernard Sang, who won with a time of 02:16:49, and another Kenyan, Cheprot, who came second.
