Those who are comparing Nigeria with the European countries in terms of Information Communication Technology (ICT) development may not be fair to the country, because of the times at which they venture into ICT.

Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu said that Nigeria and others was not expected to progress at the same rate as other civilized nations which had been involved in ICT development for between 30 and 40 years.

Shittu who said this in an interview with Vanguard in an ICT conference in Bacelona, Spain, said Nigeria and other countries in Africa were still learning the ropes and hence will take some time to develop beyond its present state.

He, however, promised to take Nigeria to the next level in ICT development, as Communications Minister.

“I don’t know when Nigeria will conquer, but, what is important really is starting but we cannot really catch up now. But if the political will is there, we will make it. ‘What is important is mobilizing everybody in government.

“I met the Swedish Communications Minister on ICT in this conference and I have invited him to Nigeria to bring investors in this regard at no cost to them.

“I am determined to make a huge improvement in Nigeria’s telecoms sector as minister and I am putting everything to it.  ICT is the way to go in this age and the whole world is embracing it,” Shittu said.
