FG urged to clear oil marketers’ N800bn debt

Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed.

The Federal Government has been urged to pay up the independent oil marketers to avoid shutting oil supplies.

The House of Representatives who gave the advice said this will help save Nigerians for unnecessarily trouble especially in the yuletide.

Petroleum marketers had threatened to stop supply of petroleum products unless their debt which amount to N800b is settled by the federal government.

According to Thisday, the Chairman, House of Representatives’ Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Joseph Akinlaja, commenting on planned strike by oil marketers  during an oversight visit to the headquarters of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Wednesday, said settling the debt will help forestall any crisis in the country, especially during the yuletide.
