Umahi emerges chairman of S-East Governors Forum
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi was on Sunday elected the Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum.
The five governors of the zone met in Enugu and elected Governor David Umahi resolving to build stronger ties.
Despite the hiccup that previously stalled their meetings, the governors, however, resolved to build stronger ties and to commence economic and security integration of the geo-political zone.
While addressing newsmen, Umahi said the forum was briefed by the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on the provisions of the zone in the 2017 budget.
Umahi said: “We deliberated on issues affecting the zone such as insecurity and we agreed to integrate our security so that all forms of vices such as robbery and kidnapping could be dealt with.”
He said due to the nature of Igboman in business, the forum also agreed it was proper to integrate commerce. He said commissioners of commerce in the five states would soon meet to draw a blueprint on the proposed economic integration.
“We agreed to work together and to compare notes so we can copy and paste. We also endorsed the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo under the leadership of Chief Nnia Nwodo and we ask Ndigbo to work with him for proper integration,” said Umahi.
