Osun: Oyetola emerges governor elect, as Adeleke kicks
Isiaka Oyetola on Friday morning emerged the governor elect of Osun State, after scoring the highest number of votes in Thursday’s rerun, even as the Peoples Democratic Party candididate, Senator Ademola Adeleke kicked against the results.
The chief returning officer for Osun State, Professor Joseph Adeola Fuwape, made the announcement in Oshogbo and declared the APC candidate winner of the election.
Oyetola scored 255,505 votes to beat Ademola Adeleke with just 482 votes.
The PDP candidate scored 255,023 votes.
The election held on 22 September went into a rerun in some seven polling units.
With this development, the governor elect, Isiaka Oyetola will succeed Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the governor of Osun state on 27 November, 2018.
But, the Ademola Campaign Organisation (ACO) rejected the supplementary poll in Osun state, describing it as a violent sham, a brazen theft and daylight swindling of Osun people.
In a statement signed by the Director of the Organisation, Olawale Rasheed, he lamented: “The Osun people were criminally denied their rights to vote and be voted for by an anti-people, conspiracy among INEC, security agencies, and the ruling All Progressives Congress.”
He described the poll as “an unprecedented travesty of justice and shattering democratic values in the state.”
