Cleric wants govt to improve the living standard of Nigerians

The Senior Pastor of The Glow Christian Church, Uche McBright Uduji has called for sincerity of purpose among Nigerian politicians, in the running of the nation’s affairs.
Uduji, who is also the Chairman of McBright Group of Schools, Ejigbo, said in an interview with Espi News recently that the economic direction of the country does not give the average Nigerian hope.
According to him, the situation in the country does not reflect that the country’s leaders are abreast of the sufferings of the Nigerian people.
“You know the plight of an economy through the people. I am not an Economist, but as a pastor who deals with people on a daily basis, I can tell you that the living standard of the people has continued to nosedive,” Uduji said.
Continuing he said: “The problem with our leaders is that they are not in tune with the people they are governing. They live in state houses and do not seem to know the plight of the Nigerian people.
“In Sociology, there is a theory that says you need to live and be abreast of the people to be able to feel their pulse. Check out our roads, they do not show that we are oil producing nation. And right now some of the policies of the government do not seem to be improving the livelihood of the people,” he said.
On the issue of border closure, the cleric noted that the policy is not helping the average Nigerians as against the expectation of the federal government. He believes that the policy is only helping a few rich Nigerians compared to the greater number.
“Federal government may have good intentions with regards to the border closure policy but the question we need ask is; how many people can import goods through our ports? The implication is that, the policy is targeted at particular people. My take is that the borders should be re-opened but monitored. Our security personnel at the borders should be made to do their work and be held accountable for any illegal activities at the border,” he pointed.
The Imo state born did not spare Nigerians whom he described as life lovers who are not ready to make sacrifices for the betterment of the nation.
“Nigerian leaders seem to have understand the psychology of Nigerians, they know that they are all toothless- all bark and no action. They cannot do anything. Throw a cup of rice to them and they will rush at it. Nigerians love life even when they don’t have it,”he posited.
