Rivers United crashed out of the CAF Champions League, after failing to uphold their three goal advantage.

The Nigerian side squandered a three-goal advantage in the first leg to go down 0-4 to El-Merreikh of Sudan, who won 4-3.

United will now compete for the Confederation Cup.

The Nigerian team had raised hope after beating El-Merreikh 3-0 in the first leg, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.

United`s  striker, Guy Kuemain, scored twice in the 15th and 17th minutes while midfielder, Esosa Igbinoba scored the third goal in the 82nd minute.

Al-Merrieikh`s attacker,  Bakri Babeechar, almost scored for his side in the 20th minute but his goal bound shot was saved by United`s keeper, Sunday Rotimi.
