58-year-old Tyson hailed in fight against Jake Paul
Though he lost in the much anticipated exhibition bout against YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul, legendary boxer, Mike Tyson stood through the eight round match hence earning him respect from many boxing watchers.
The fight held on Friday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, attracted much anticipation from boxing pundits who were keen to see what upset a 58-year-old retired Tyson would pull haven last fought 19 years ago.
The eight-round bout ended with a unanimous decision in favour of the 27-year-old Paul, whose superior speed and technique dominated the fight.
Judges scored the fight decisively for Paul, with tallies of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.
Despite the defeat, Tyson displayed moments of his legendary grit, but his age was evident in his movements and endurance.
Tyson’s return, though celebrated for its nostalgic appeal, has also raised questions about the future of exhibition boxing and the risks involved for ageing athletes stepping back into the ring.
