29,000 birds affected with flu

Bird flu virus has been detected on a duck farm in northeastern Overijssel province.

The Netherlands confirmed Tuesday that the bird flu virus was detected in Kamperveen village where 29,000 ducks were said to have been affected.

The Dutch Agriculture Ministry said in a statement that the birds will be culled to prevent the spread of the virus,”

“The transport of poultry, eggs, used straw and poultry fertilizer is prohibited within a 10- kilometer radius around the farm,” it said.

The culling will be carried out by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority.

Bird flu was found at the same farm in 2014 and 2016, while 36,000 chickens were culled for the same reason in Groningen province last month.
