N3.7b Kazaure Water Supply Project flag off in Jigawa

The Federal Government of Nigeria has flagged-off the construction of N3.7 billion Kazaure Water Supply Project aimed at providing 10,000metric cubic portable water daily in Jigawa State.

The project, which is expected to be completed within a period of 24 months, according to the Minister of water resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, was to have a water supply scheme that will provide 10,000metric cubic daily portable water through rehabilitation and augmentation of the existing water supply facilities to meet the portable water needs of about 150,000 people in kazaure town.

Speaking during the flag off on Monday in Jigawa, Adamu said, to derive maximum benefit from the project, “Jigawa State Government is partnering with the Federal Government by undertaking the responsibility for rehabilitating and upgrading the distribution network to Kazaure Township and environ that will enable effective utilization of the scheme.

“To this effect, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), between the Federal government and Jigawa state government will be signed at today’s project flag-off ceremony.

“The provision of water supply and sanitation has been the responsibility of the three tiers of government.”

He added that the Federal Government through the ministry will provide the overall policy framework, mobilization of resources, general coordination, monitoring and evaluation and to execute intervention projects to accelerate access to portable water by the populace.

In his address, Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, noted that Jigawa state had shown its commitment to the project by the signing of the MoU between the federal government and the state government.

The governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor of the State, Barrister Ibrahim Hassan, expressed that Jigawa will give its full corporation with the federal ministry of water resources to ensure the collaboration provides water to the people of Kazaure.

“Whatever project that is of the interest of the people we have committed to continue and complete those project ultimately, to ensure that what previous government have put into the project doesn’t go into waste.”

The Minister of water resources also inspected the N15.5billion Gari Irrigation Project Site in Jigawa State.

The project covers for 2,114hectares of farm land, transcending between five local Government Areas (LGA), 3 LGAs in kano and 2 LGAs in Jigawa.
