Ganduje weds 1,520

The Kano State government on Sunday sponsored the wedding of 1, 520 couples under its mass wedding programme.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje said 3,000 couples were screened but 1,520 were selected for the first batch.
Ganduje who said this during the programme at the Kano Central Mosque, Emir’s Palace, said his administration will sponsor the wedding of the rest couples in the near future.
“We decided to make it in batches so that we will do everything diligently,” he assured.
Ganduje added that Kano state government paid N20, 000 for each bride and donated a set of room furniture and other materials to the couples.
Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammadu Sanusi commended the Kano state government for sponsoring the mass wedding, and assured that the emirate council would continue to support any government programme that would help the people.
The state Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, said about N200m was spent for the mass wedding programme, saying unlike the previous exercises, this year’s mass wedding was spread across the 44 local government areas of the state.
The mass wedding programme was first introduced in the state by the Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso administration when the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was the deputy.
